1. Technology has helped to better our lives:
Social: social networking/communication
Theres no one that you can not reach at any time.
Question: Have social networking sites like faceook made our personal lives too transparent?

2. Technology makes people physically lazy:
Factor that influences our assumption: People take the escalator/elevator as opposed to the stairs (even though the stairs may be faster)
more productive mentally, less productive physically.
Question: Is our increased mental productivity worth the lack of physical activity we get each day?

3. Technology has taken over the world:
Factor that influences our assumption: you can't go through a day without using/dealing with technology
Question: Are computers going to surpass humans in intelligence?

Well that depends how private or transparent you would like your personal life to be. Social networking sites have created an easy way for people near or far to stay in touch and to know whats going on in the lives of people they may know or not know so much. Most social networking sites are made by the user, meaning you can put as much or as little information in as you like. Also there are various controls allowing you to share certain information with some groups, and hide certain information from others. I believe how private a person would like to keep their life is still mainly in control of that person.

(This is Anais using Emmeline DePina's account to answer a question right now because I don't have one yet :( Sorry for the confusion people)

Q: Is our increased mental productivity worth the lack of physical activity we get every day?

A: We certainly are lacking physical activity, but i don't believe that our brains are making up the difference at all. If anything, I think we are probably intellectually stimulated far less now, with science, than we were before it became such a huge part of our lives. For example, reading books as opposed to watching tv or surfing the web, neither of which require much imagination or creativity. (I also vaguely remember a portion of the last class discussion where we discussed the fact that, as a result of science, our brains are losing the ability to multitask? Can't remember it too well though, so don't quote me on it.)
All in all, even if our brain function was increasing to match the level of non-performance by our bodies, i still don't believe it would be worth the sedentary lifestyle and general lack of health that goes along with one.

(2)Technology I feel has taken a serious physical toll on the human body. The lack of physical movement from children has been mainly because of the impact of technolical advances. What I mean is children playing their video games, surfing the net,and or staying on the phone and watching t.v. These are all the negative physical side effects of technology. I rember when I was younger since we lacked cable id rather go outside and run, jumprope, and play hide n seek. Now a days kids want to stay indoors and be couch potatoes. Technology has turned the many physical excersises into things of the past.

Question: are computers going to surpass humans in intelligence?

I do not believe that it is possible for computers to surpass us in intelligence. Computers are built by us & we program the knowledge we already have into them. Unless we someday develop a computer or "robot" that can self-power itself & create new knowledge on its own I don't believe we will ever run into this problem. Computers don't contain brains or minds like humans do therefore it is not possible for them to create theories or thoughts of their own which would further their intelligence.
